Camp Features

Camp Classes
Campers will play in a concert band twice per day, attend sectionals and participate in masterclasses.  They will also get to select a musicianship or conducting class as their daily elective. See what a sample daily schedule for this camp looks like.

Performance Opportunity
Camp will conclude with a final performance in Ruby Diamond Concert Hall at 12:00pm on Saturday. All students will perform at this concert, and families are welcome to attend.  Click here to see what repertoire has been played by our bands in the past.

There will also be an Honors Solo Recital on Thursday evening at 7pm.   Students who are interested in playing a solo piece at this concert will be able to audition on check-in day.  (More information about this audition will be provided in the handbook).

NEW!!! Honors Wind Ensemble
We are introducing a special opportunity for campers who wish to audition for an advanced, honors wind ensemble. 10 students will be selected to participate in a Brass or Woodwind Quintet as their elective class. Then they will join the Orchestra each afternoon for sectionals and Symphony Orchestra rehearsal. Interested students will be able to submit an audition for a chance to play in this ensemble after they are registered for camp. Evening Activities
Activities are planned for each evening and will include movie nights, faculty and staff recitals, ice cream socials, sports, and more.  A full recreation schedule will be provided two weeks before camp begins.

Two Opportunities To Attend
This camp will be offered during two separate sessions. Each one-week session is structured the same; they will feature the same classes and instructors, and will have similar recreation schedules. The only difference will be that new music will be played each week. If you wish to attend both sessions, great!  You can choose to check-out after the conclusion of the first session and check-in on Sunday for the start of session two, or you can stay on campus for the extra night for a small fee which covers the extra night, extra meals and counselor supervision.  Read more about Extra Nights of Housing.

Eligibility

Eligible campers must have completed grades 8, 9, 10, 11 or 12 in the ’21-’22 school year.  (Rising 9th graders during summer 2022 can choose either the Middle School Band Camp or the Senior High Band Camp).

All ability levels are welcome but campers should have at least 6 months of school instruction or equivalent on an instrument.

No audition is required to register.  There will be a placement audition at camp check-in to determine your ensemble assignment.  There is also an optional audition for the Honors Solo Recital on check-in day.

Please contact our office to discuss any questions or accommodations that may need to be made for your camper at least three weeks prior to the start of camp.

Placement Audition

Many of our camps have a placement audition at check-in to determine ensemble and chair placement. Some camps also have a music theory survey to determine your level of theory experience. These events take place during Administrative Check-in before you go to the dorm. Once the camper completes these check-in activities we will build a class schedule to fit.

Campers should prepare the following for the Band Camp for Senior High placement audition:

Two scales of your choice
Two solo excerpts, etudes or short pieces*

  • One piece should be slower, lyrical
  • One piece should be faster and more technically demanding
  • *Percussionist should prepare a snare piece and a mallet piece

Once ensemble assignments have been made they will not be changed.

Overnight Campers:
$536.00 per session
This includes tuition, housing, and three meals per day.

Day Campers:
$340.00 per session
This includes tuition only.

All campers will receive a digital download recording of the final concert.

Campers may wish to bring a small amount of extra money for snacks, and optional recreation activities.

Optional private lessons are available at this camp and can be booked at camp check-in. Lessons are $50.00 per 50-minute lesson. Lesson payments are made directly to lesson teachers. Read more about Private Lessons.

Campers who plan to attend another camp the following week may wish to stay overnight in the dorm on the night of June 18. The cost for the night of housing between the two camp weeks is $50.00.  You also have the option to check-out from the first camp and then check back in for the second week.  Read more about Extra Nights of Housing.

$100.00 of your camp fee, per camp, is non-refundable.

Families can choose to pay in full when registering OR enroll in a payment plan. Payment plans are auto-draft and must be paid in full by May 10. Campers registering after May 10 must pay in full at the time of registration.

Scholarship and other third-party payments can be accepted.  Please contact our office if you need assistance with having a scholarship or school booster check applied to your account.

Multiple Sessions

You may attend multiple camp sessions if you wish. The two band sessions will be structured the same, campers will follow the same schedule, and the instructors will be the same, but different music will be played each week.

Campers who plan to attend another camp the following week(s) may wish to stay overnight in the dorm on the night in between each camp. The cost for the night of housing between the two camp weeks is $50.00.  You also have the option to check-out from the first camp and then check back in for the second week.  Read more about Extra Nights of Housing.

Wait Lists

If there is a wait list notice for your instrument when you go to register, you can opt to be placed on the wait list. No deposit is required to be placed on the wait list. If a spot becomes available then we will notify you to offer you the spot.

Instruments

All campers must bring their instrument with them to camp. If you do not own your own instrument, we suggest speaking with your music teacher about borrowing your school instrument for the duration of camp.

The instrument that you select during camp registration is the instrument that you must play at camp. If you would like to change your instrument to a different one after you register, please contact our office prior to the start of your camp.

Campers will also need to bring a folding music stand and their instrument accessories.  Learn more about packing for camp.

Check-In & Check-Out
  • Check In Session One:  June 19
  • Check In Session Two:  June 26

After you are registered, you will be sent additional information including a link where you will sign-up for a check-in time slot.

Check-out takes place following the final performance on the last day of camp.  The performance will end at approximately 1pm.
