Music Theatre

Providing holistic training in acting, singing, and dancing.

Our graduates work on Broadway, National Tours, Regional Theatre and Film and Television.

Our program is one of the top Music Theatre training programs in the country. Each year our students perform a Senior Showcase for Agents and Casting Directors in NYC.

Training for the Triple Threat

All of our students train in Acting, Singing, Dancing as well as synthesizing putting it all together in performance. Leveled dance classes are offered to our students and there are many performance opportunities every semester including musicals, plays, operas and dance concerts. Although students study in each area separately, the strength of the program is in its joint nature, allowing students and faculty to explore the connections that unite singing, acting, and dancing.

In addition to performing in the regular music theatre productions, music theatre students are encouraged to perform in as many venues as possible. The College of Music offers a wide range of performance opportunities, including FSU Opera and numerous choral and instrumental ensembles. In addition, music theatre students have danced in FSU Dance productions and performed in plays by such authors as Shakespeare and Chekhov on The Mainstage. Each year, graduating students present a Senior Showcase in New York City, performing for an audience of invited agents and casting directors, master teachers, producers, alumni, and friends.

The FSU College of Music offers a Bachelor of Music in Performance (Music Theatre).  Separately, the College of Fine Arts offers a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music Theatre. For a comparison of the two degrees, click here.

Creativity and Collaboration

Class work includes working on the existing canon of Music Theatre repertoire as well as New Musicals currently in development. We also offer opportunities for student-led creative projects.

Strong Community

Our program is unique as a very small program housed within large university. Our small class sizes mean high contact hours from faculty in addition to an incredible Alumni network.
