Florida State University College of Music Showcases Scholarly Excellence at 2025 AMS/SMT Joint Annual Meeting

Faculty, students, and alumni from the Florida State University College of Music will be prominently featured at the 91st Annual Meeting of the American Musicological Society (AMS), held jointly with the Society for Music Theory (SMT) from November 6–9, 2025, at the Hyatt Regency Minneapolis in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

This annual gathering is one of the world’s leading conferences for scholars in musicology and music theory, bringing together hundreds of researchers, educators, and performers for a weekend of presentations, performances, and discussions exploring music in all its forms.

Florida State University’s College of Music will be represented by more than 25 faculty members, graduate students, and alumni, highlighting the university’s ongoing impact and leadership in the field. Their contributions span topics such as music theory pedagogy, popular music analysis, ecomusicology, gender and identity in music, global and historical performance practices, and the intersections of sound, technology, and culture.

The College’s broad representation at AMS/SMT 2025 underscores its national reputation for excellence in research and teaching. Through their papers, performances, and service as session chairs and moderators, FSU participants continue to shape conversations around how music is studied, taught, and understood in contemporary contexts.
