Musicology Unlimited: Sabine Meine Residency

FSU College of Music Welcomes Dr. Sabine Meine for Residency and Launch of “Musicology Unlimited” Collaboration

The Musicology area at the Florida State University College of Music is pleased to welcome Dr. Sabine Meine, Professor of Musicology at the Cologne Hochschule für Musik und Tanz (HfMT), for a residency from September 20 to October 2, 2025. Supported by the S. Douglass Seaton Endowed Fund for Musicology, this visit marks the first step in Musicology Unlimited, a new collaborative initiative between FSU and HfMT dedicated to global interdisciplinary musicology.

Meine is a leading scholar of early modern and modern musical culture in Italy and France, with a focus on cultural transfer, interdisciplinarity, and the social meaning of music. As head of the Institute for Historical Musicology at HfMT, she has led public-facing, intercultural projects like Cologne Music Histories, which connect musicological research with diasporic communities and student fieldwork.

During her residency, Meine will co-teach seminars, engage with faculty and students, and offer public lectures that support the vision of a “Big-M Musicology”—a field that transcends boundaries between historical, ethnographic, and theoretical approaches. The following events during Meine’s residency will be open to any interested member of the public, free of charge:

  • Wednesday, Sept. 24 | 2:30 PM | Kuersteiner Music Building (KMU), Room 240
SfM presentation: “Kölner Musikgeschichten (Cologne Music Histories): Researching, Localizing, and Networking Post-Migrant Cultures 2024-2026”
Please join us for a reception following this presentation at 4pm in the KMU Lounge (KMU  213)
  • Tuesday, Sept. 30 | 3:30 PM | Housewright Music Building (HMU), Room 229
Lecture and co-teaching Music and Mobility seminar: “Trombincino goes to Venice”

Meine’s residency builds on the growing relationship between FSU and HfMT, laying the groundwork for future faculty and student exchanges, joint seminars, and broader institutional collaboration for the next century. By bringing together diverse musicological traditions and educational practices, Musicology Unlimited seeks to redefine how music is studied, taught, and understood in a connected yet divided world.
