The Florida State University College of Music proudly celebrates the achievements of distinguished alumnus Dr. Jeffrey Redding, who recently conducted a powerful and historic performance of “Lift Every Voice and Sing” at Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans. As part of the NFL’s celebration of the hymn’s 125th anniversary, Dr. Redding led 125 high school students from the Greater New Orleans area in a moving pregame ceremony that honored the legacy and enduring resilience of the New Orleans community.
Dr. Redding, a 2019 GRAMMY Music Educator Award recipient, has long been a leader in the world of choral music and education, and holds both a doctorate and master’s degree from the College of Music at Florida State University. He currently serves as the Director of Choral Activities at the University of Central Florida (UCF).
As a proud graduate of FSU’s College of Music, Dr. Redding’s career exemplifies the values of artistry, mentorship, and community engagement that the college strives to instill in its students. His role in this landmark Super Bowl performance is a testament to his ability to bring voices together in harmony—both musically and culturally. Under his direction, the Greater New Orleans High School Choral Collective, alongside Ledisi, delivered a stirring rendition of “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” reinforcing the song’s significance as an anthem of hope and unity.
