Tallahassee Regional Music Collection

The Tallahassee Regional Music Collection (TRMC) is an ongoing endeavor to preserve and make accessible recorded audio, artifacts, and more created by artists who have ties to the Tallahassee region. It is an opportunity both for artists to preserve their musical output and for the community to learn and engage with the region’s rich music scene past and present. The TRMC is a collaboration between the Warren D. Allen Music Library (AML) and the Center for Music of the Americas (CMA) at FSU.

Scope

We loosely define the “Tallahassee region” as the Franklin, Gadsden, Gulf, Jefferson, Leon, Liberty, and Wakulla counties in Florida and welcome additions to the collection from artists with ties to the area. We accept audio and video recordings (both commercially released and unreleased), posters, flyers, pictures, setlists, books, zines, written musical scores and compositions, and bios. We are currently working on setting up a digital platform for the community to engage with these materials online as well as physically.

Frequently Asked Questions

Expand All
Do you purchase materials for the collection?

Yes! We have dedicated a portion of the Music Library’s acquisitions budget to purchasing commercially produced audio and visual recordings and published musical scores and books by regional artists.

What kinds of materials do you accept in donations?

We require a meeting with one of the TRMC team before accepting any donated materials into the collection. Material types we generally will accept include:

    • Audio and visual recordings (physical or digital formats)

    • Promotional materials (i.e. posters, flyers, etc.)

    • Lyric sheets, set lists, etc.

    • Photographs
Do I have to be an FSU student to access the TRMC?

Definitely not! Anyone with an active Florida State University System ID or Florida Borrowers card can check out our circulating materials. Our archival collections can be viewed in person with a prior appointment regardless of residency or status with a Florida university. There are plans underway to make much of our archival collections accessible online as well.
