Elizabeth Uchimura
Elizabeth Uchimura is the Music Digital Services and Special Collections Librarian at the Warren D. Allen Music Library. She holds a BA in Music, an MS in Information, and an MM in Musicology from Florida State.
Elizabeth currently serves as the Book Reviews Editor for the Society for American Music Bulletin (2022-2025) and is the Member-at-Large for the Southeast Chapter of the Music Library Association (2023-2025). She is also a contributing member of the Queer Metadata Collective which recently published guidance for working with materials by and about queer people, Best Practices for Queer Metadata. Aside from service, Elizabeth’s research interests include genre and race in the American music industry, vernacular and commercial singing styles, critical cataloging, and community music preservation. She has presented her work on barbershop and doo-wop at meetings for the Society for American Music and the American Musicological Society.
An avid barbershopper, Elizabeth has directed two barbershop choruses and sings in quartets as often as possible. She can often be seen leading “tag” sessions in the College of Music breezeway.
