FSU’s National Association for Music Education (NAfME) Collegiate Chapter

**Nationally Honored with the Chapter of Excellence Award in the category of Service in 2025**
**Nationally Honored with the Chapter of Excellence Award in the category of Advocacy in 2019**

The NAfME Collegiate chapter at Florida State University embodies the mission of the National Association for Music Education — a collaborative community that supports music educators and advocates for equitable access to music education. In line with this mission, membership in NAfME Collegiate at FSU is open not only to music education majors, but to all who share a commitment to supporting music teaching and learning for all.

The chapter is dedicated to fostering professional development, promoting music education advocacy, and engaging in meaningful community service. Through workshops, conferences, guest speakers, and networking opportunities, members cultivate personal and professional relationships that extend well beyond their time at FSU and into their careers as music teachers, performers, and industry leaders. In recognition of its outstanding efforts, the chapter at FSU has been honored with the NAfME Collegiate Chapter of Excellence Award for Advocacy (2019) and Service (2025).

Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) at FSU

**Nationally Honored as the “Collegiate Chapter of the Year” in 2022**

This Registered Student Organization is an affiliate of both the Florida State Music Teachers Association (FSMTA) and the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA). As a group run by students for students, MTNA at FSU fosters an inviting environment where young professionals begin building their career portfolios and gain invaluable experience through leadership roles, event organization, conference presentations, and networking with others in the field. In addition to its professional development opportunities, MTNA at FSU also provides a welcoming social outlet for students, encouraging connection and camaraderie within the music community.

In 2022, the chapter was nationally recognized as the MTNA College Chapter of the Year for excellence in its activities. Some of the events and activities MTNA at FSU has hosted or participated in, many of which occur annually, include:

  • Group presentations at the MTNA National Conference, the MTNA Collegiate Chapter Symposium, and the Florida State Music Teachers Association Conference
  • Live Well, Play Well, Teach Well: Exploring the Dimensions of Wellness series
  • World Music Series
  • Young Collaborative Pianists Workshop
  • Hearing and Voice Screenings (in collaboration with FSU’s School of Communication Science and Disorders)
  • Piano Prep Festival
  • Pandemic Webinar Series
  • Finals Week Self-Care Day
  • Make-a-Wish Benefit Concert

FSU’s American String Teachers Association (ASTA) Student Chapter

         **Nationally Honored as the “Outstanding ASTA Student Chapter” in 2023**
**Nationally Honored as the “Most Improved ASTA Student Chapter” in 2022**

Florida State University hosts a vibrant student chapter of the American String Teachers Association (ASTA), welcoming members from a wide range of majors and degree programs. The chapter regularly organizes lectures featuring distinguished faculty, guest artists, and community educators, as well as workshops on instrument repair, maintenance, and pedagogy. Members also participate in repertoire reading sessions and collaborate with other professional associations within the College of Music.

Each spring, the FSU ASTA Student Chapter hosts the North Florida String Festival, a solo and ensemble performance event open to K–12 orchestral string players and guitarists from the North Florida and South Georgia regions. Student chapter members are actively involved in the broader ASTA community, regularly attending and presenting at state and national ASTA conferences.

The chapter’s outstanding work has been recognized multiple times by the National ASTA organization, earning both the “Most Improved ASTA Student Chapter” and “Outstanding ASTA Student Chapter” awards.

FSU’s American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) Student Chapter 

**Nationally Honored as the “Collegiate Chapter of the Year” in 2024**

This Registered Student Organization is an affiliate of the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA). As a group run by students for students, FSU ACDA fosters an inviting environment where young professionals begin building their choral career portfolios and gain invaluable experience through connections with guest speakers, leadership roles, event organization, conference presentations, and networking with others in the field. In addition to its professional development opportunities, FSU ACDA provides a welcoming social outlet for students, encouraging connection and camaraderie within the music community.

In 2024, the chapter was nationally recognized as the ACDA National Collegiate Chapter of the Year for excellence in its activities. Some of the events and activities FSU ACDA has hosted or participated in, many of which occur annually, include:

  • Conducting masterclasses 
  • Career advising and resume preparation 
  • Presentations on Arts Advocacy 
  • Choral Seminars on varied topics
  • Guest lectures from leaders in the field such as Dr. Andrea Ramsey
