Piano Pedagogy

The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Music Education with a concentration in Piano Pedagogy is for individuals who plan to teach at universities, academies, or schools worldwide, or for entrepreneurs who wish to establish their own private studios. Believing that artistry and pedagogy are inextricably linked, the program trains individuals to be expressive performers and thoughtful educators capable of inspiring the next generation of pianists. The degree offers numerous teaching opportunities and practical experiences that expose individuals to a wide range of pedagogical settings, enabling them to learn through experience and enhance their community engagement. Individuals in our program also collaborate with the College of Music’s leading music education researchers to explore evidence-based teaching practices and scholarly inquiry, addressing some of the most pressing questions pedagogues face today.
