Performance Opportunities in Jazz
The College of Music has three big bands among its Jazz Ensembles that perform concerts both on and off campus. The top FSU Jazz Ensemble is nationally acclaimed and draws from a select group of graduate and undergraduate students.
Chamber Music (Jazz Combos)
A core part of the jazz experience at FSU is participation in jazz combos. Students audition and are placed in a variety of faculty- and graduate assistant-led combos based on their demonstrated skill levels. These combos showcase a variety of traditional and modern jazz styles, performing both on and off campus throughout the year. In addition, students may organize other small jazz ensembles as part of a directed study.
The Jazz/Pop Ensembles
The College of Music Jazz/Pop Vocal Ensemble is a group of 8 to 12 singers and a rhythm section. The ensemble performs in a variety of university and community settings, and emphasis is placed on comprehensive use of musical and stage skills which culminate in dynamic public performances of jazz and popular vocal music.
