Bachelor’s degree students receive hands-on experiences with K–12 music students to learn and refine the basic techniques of teaching starting from their very first year in the program. The program also prepares students for teacher certification, enabling them to launch their career in Band, Choral, Elementary General, Secondary General, or String Music Education directly upon graduation.
Master’s degree students receive intensive courses that focus on challenging their thinking, expanding and improving their teaching and conducting practice, and even preparing to apply for a doctoral program. Hands-on teaching and conducting experiences occur throughout with K-12, collegiate, and community music students.
Doctoral degree students receive uniquely designed, intensive courses and experiences that focus on the areas of teaching/conducting, scholarship, and service, preparing them for college and university positions. Hands-on experiences teaching and conducting undergraduate and graduate collegiate music students, leadership roles in one of the most comprehensive summer music camps for K-12 students in the country, and supervision of BME student teachers during their internship are among the many opportunities available.
