The Florida State University College of Music is pleased to announce the launch of a new Bachelor of Arts in Music Business, an undergraduate degree designed to prepare students for careers in the modern music and entertainment industries. The program will be housed within a newly established academic area titled Music Industry, reflecting the College’s expanding focus on industry-centered education and experiential learning.

Led by Alan Blanchard, the Bachelor of Arts in Music Business responds to increasing student interest and industry demand for graduates who combine musical knowledge with business, entrepreneurial, and technological skills. The program offers a comprehensive curriculum that integrates music, business, law, marketing, technology, and management, equipping students for careers in artist management, music publishing, recording and production, touring, licensing, and emerging digital platforms.

With a background releasing GRAMMY-Award winning albums and in artist management, Blanchard brings significant professional experience and industry insight that will directly inform curriculum development, student mentorship, and experiential learning opportunities. His arrival strengthens the College’s commitment to bridging academic study with real-world practice.

The Music Business degree builds upon recent growth within the College of Music, including the addition of Welling Gordon as Specialized Teaching Faculty of Music Recording. These hires represent a strategic investment in expanding instruction and expertise aligned with contemporary music careers and industry trends.

In support of the new program, the College has also recently completed the first phase of renovation of its recording studio facilities, providing students with enhanced access to modern production, recording, and collaborative spaces. The upgraded studio environment allows students to work with industry-standard tools and technologies, reinforcing hands-on learning as a central component of the curriculum.

The creation of the Music Industry area represents an important step forward for the College of Music, unifying music business–related programs under a shared academic identity. This new area complements the College’s established strengths while creating new opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration and career-focused study.

The launch of the Bachelor of Arts in Music Business marks the beginning of continued growth within the Music Industry area, with more programs, partnerships, and opportunities planned. Through these efforts, the FSU College of Music continues to advance its mission of preparing students for meaningful, innovative careers in music and beyond.
