Li Yeoh
Li Yeoh, Director of Piano Technology, joined the faculty at the Florida State University College of Music in academic year 2017/18. Dr. Yeoh directs the graduate degree program in Piano Technology, together with a series of piano technology courses for pianists, instrumentalists, and piano technicians. The Master of Arts in Piano Technology is a premier program worldwide and provides a real-world artistic collaboration between emerging students, world-class faculty, and guest artists.
Dr. Yeoh is a Master Piano Technician of America and a certified Damp Chaser installer. He has received the C. F. Theodore Steinway Technical Academy certificates at the New York Steinway & Son piano factory, the PianoDisc installer certificate at the Mason & Hamlin piano factory in Haverhill, MA and attended the Little Red Schoolhouse Academy at Yamaha Piano in Anaheim, CA.
A regular guest speaker and national clinician of the Piano Technician Guild and the American Guild of Organists, Dr. Yeoh appeared internationally as one of the premiere guest speakers at the 1st Mid Pacific Piano Technicians Conference in Honolulu, HI and the 18th Australasian Piano Tuners and Technicians Association Bi-Annual Convention and Piano Expo in Melbourne, Australia.
Dr. Yeoh’s recent works can be heard on 2017 HBO Documentary Films® series “The Music of Strangers: Yo-Yo Ma and the Silk Road Ensemble” (2017 Grammy®-nominated Best Music Film) by Academy Awards® winner & filmmaker Morgan Neville (the 2014 Oscar® & 2015 Grammy®-winning “Twenty Feet from Stardom”), and also on iTunes: New Generations: The Etudes of Philip Glass – Music of the Next Generation by pianist Paul Barnes, with UK Gramophone 2016 review.
In 2019, the Student Disability Resource Center (SDRC) at Florida State University presented Dr. Yeoh with the All Access Champion Award. This Award recognizes faculty at Florida State who are committed to providing opportunities for students with disabilities to succeed in their academic endeavors beyond what is required by the FSU SDRC.
Prior to his arrival at FSU, Dr. Yeoh served as Chief Piano Technician and Lecturer of Piano Technology at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music. His responsibilities included complete concert services on concert grand pianos and historical keyboards for the world-class performances at the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts, the Johnny Carson Theater, and the Lied Center for Performing Arts.
Dr. Yeoh has served renown artists such as Emanuel Ax, Jean-Efflam Bavouzet, Joshua Bell, Tony Bennett, Dave Brubeck, Jonathan Biss, Lucas Debargue, Ingrid Fliter, Sir James Galway, Richard Goode, Marc-André Hamelin, Stephen Hough, Yo-Yo Ma, Wynton Marsalis, Dave Meder, Idina Menzel, Jon Nakamatsu, Garrick Ohlsson, Itzhak Perlman, Mikhail Pletnev, Marcus Roberts, Eugene Rousseau, Steve Solomon, Yuja Wang, Pablo Ziegler, Jaap van Zweden, the Boston Pops, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Glenn Miller Orchestra, International Thespian Festival, the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, the Joey Alexander Trio, the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra, the New York’s Fiasco Theater, the Russian National Orchestra, Shanghai Quartet, and many others.
Dr. Yeoh earned both the Master’s and Doctoral degrees in Horn Performance at the University of North Texas and was awarded 5-year teaching fellowship at the UNT College of Music. He was the principal horn of the Wichita Falls Symphony Orchestra and has performed with the Dallas Wind Symphony, the Dallas Opera, the Tulsa Symphony, the Omaha Symphony, the Plano Symphony, the Irving Symphony, the San Angelo Symphony, the Tallahassee Symphony, the National Symphony Orchestra of Malaysia, the Orchestra of New Spain (Baroque), the Imperial Brass, and the Fine Arts Chamber Players in Dallas, TX. He was the Malaysian Representative of the International Horn Society, with publications in the Horn Call – International Horn Society Journal.
