Kimbery VanWeelden, Professor of Music Education at Florida State University, completed her bachelor of Music Education degree from Drake University, Des Moines, Iowa and her master of music and Ph.D. in Choral Music Education from the University of Arizona, Tucson. A choral and secondary general music specialist, she began her teaching career in the public schools of State Center, Iowa.

At FSU, Dr. VanWeelden teaches choral, secondary general music, and descriptive research courses at both the undergraduate and graduate level, and also conducts the Tallahassee Senior Choir and the University Chorale. Her research interests are focused in the areas of students with special needs, geriatric vocal pedagogy and wellness, and music teacher/music therapist training. Professor VanWeelden has made frequent presentations at state, national, and international conventions that concentrate in these research areas. Her research has also been published in the Journal of Research in Music Education, Bulletin of the Council for Research in Music Education, Journal of Music Therapy, Journal of Music Teacher Education, International Journal of Music Education, Music Therapy Perspectives, and the Choral Journal. She is an active member of the Music Educators National Conference, the American Music Therapy Association, and the American Choral Directors Association.
