Diane Soelberg

Diane Soelberg is the Director of Bands, and conductor of the Symphony Band and teaches the oboe studio at Brigham Young University-Idaho. She currently serves as an Associate Dean in the College of Performing and Visual Arts, and was the Chair of the Department of Music from 2013 through 2017. Other teaching assignments have included music theory and ear training, instrumental conducting, chamber ensemble coaching and music education courses. Under her direction, the BYU-Idaho Symphony Band has performed throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico. The band has performed at the Idaho Music Educators Association (IMEA) State Conference, National Association for Music Education (NAfME) All-Northwest Conference, and at the College Band Directors National Association (CBDNA) Western/Northwestern Division Conference.

Miss Soelberg received a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Utah. She also received a Bachelor of Science in Music Therapy from Utah State University, and a Master of Music Education with an Emphasis in Conducting from Brigham Young University. Prior to her appointment at BYU-Idaho in 2003, she taught high school band and orchestra for fourteen years in the Weber County and Alpine School Districts in Utah. She received the “Rookie of the Year” award from the Utah Music Educators Association, the “Accent on Excellence” award from the Alpine School District, and the “Distinguished Faculty” award from BYU-Idaho.

Miss Soelberg served on the board of the Utah Music Educators Association as Band Vice-President, and as the Utah All-State Band Chair. She was a staff member of, and traveled on European concert tours with the Utah Ambassadors of Music from 1997 through 2005, and is the former conductor of the American Fork Symphony, and is the conductor of the Idaho Falls Youth Symphony. She currently serves as the Northwest Division President of the College Band Directors National Association, and is also a member of the National Band Association, World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles, the International Double-Reed Society, and NAfME/IMEA. Miss Soelberg maintains a busy schedule as a clinician, adjudicator and guest conductor. She enjoys traveling, running, biking, and golfing.
