Ann Harrington is an Assistant Professor of Music Education at Florida State University, where she teaches courses in elementary music methods, classroom management, and graduate research methods. Prior to her appointment at FSU, she served on the music education faculty at the University of Southern Mississippi, Ball State University, and the University of Louisiana at Monroe. She is certified in Orff Schulwerk and taught elementary and middle school general music in New Orleans, Louisiana, and at the Dubard School for Language Disorders in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Over the past ten years, she has enjoyed working with older adult music learners in a variety of community settings. Currently, she serves as an instructor for the New Horizons International Music Association and facilitates a ukulele circle for older adults in Tallahassee.
Harrington’s research interests include older adult music-making and wellness, community music, and music perception and cognition. She regularly presents at state, national, and international research conferences, and her research has been published in the International Journal of Community Music, Music Education Research, UPDATE: Applications of Research in Music Education, Contributions to Music Education, and is featured in the UPDATE podcast series.
Harrington received her degrees in Music Education from the University of Kentucky (PhD and MM) and the University of Southern Mississippi (BME).
