Beethoven2027@FSU: Shared Freedom is a year-long, seven-concert celebration of Ludwig van Beethoven’s chamber music, marking the bicentenary of his death. Featuring FSU faculty, students, alumni, and guest artists, the series presents Beethoven’s violin sonatas, cello sonatas, variation sets, and songs alongside “Letter to Beethoven,” a commissioning initiative that brings new works by FSU composers into dialogue with his legacy. Together, these programs explore transformation, collaboration, humor, innovation, and artistic freedom, inviting audiences to experience Beethoven as a living creative force whose music continues to inspire new generations.
Concert I: Beethoven: Aria to Variations
From opera scenes to instrumental variations, this program traces Beethoven’s dialogue with Mozart and Handel, revealing how familiar melodies are transformed through imagination and invention.
Concert II: Beethoven: Shared Virtuosity
Celebrating the equal partnership between performers, this program explores Beethoven’s reimagining of the duo as a space for artistic conversation and shared brilliance.
Concert III: Beethoven’s Musical Playground
From comic duos to witty songs, this family-friendly program uncovers the musical humor and spontaneity at the heart of Beethoven’s creativity.
Concert IV: A Countryside Lunch with Beethoven
Inspired by nature and friendship, this brown bag lunch concert invites listeners into Beethoven’s pastoral world.
Concert V: Beethoven: A Life in One Evening
Through music and letters, this program follows Beethoven’s path from young virtuoso to visionary artist, offering an intimate portrait of a life shaped by creativity and resilience. (This performance is part of the Housewright Virtuoso Series.)
Concert VI: Beethoven: New Instrument, New Sound
