Resources

The library holds a small collection of Braille music. Braille materials do not appear in our online catalog, but we have prepared a finding aid.

The collection is available for use by blind or sight-impaired members of the Florida State University community, or for research by appointment in the music library. For information, please contact our Head Librarian, Laura Gayle Green.

For more information about Braille and Braille music, we recommend the following sources:

  • Krolick, Bettye, Dictionary of Braille Music Signs. (Washington, DC : National Library Service for the Blind and Handicapped, 1979). REF MT38 .K76 1979.
  • National Library Service (NLS) for the Blind and Handicapped. The NLS maintains a free national library service (for US citizens or residents only) for blind, partially sighted, or physically handicapped musicians, music students, and others who enjoy music. Their collection includes more than 20,000 Braille materials.
  • Braille through Remote Learning (BRL). The BRL website includes many resources for learning about Braille and how to read and transcribe it. Of particular interest is the 1997 version of the Braille Music Code.
