The Power of Art and Collaboration: Discovery Days

Florida State University’s Office of Research will host the third annual FSU Discovery Days, a weeklong celebration of research, creativity, and innovation from October 18–25. The event series invites the FSU and Tallahassee communities to explore groundbreaking work happening across campus — from clinical research and entrepreneurship to art, music, and design.

Throughout the week, more than 25 events will highlight the interdisciplinary spirit that drives discovery at Florida State. The College of Music will take part in two featured events that illuminate the vital role the arts play in advancing human health, creativity, and connection.

Arts-Humanities-Health Symposium IV: How Can the Arts and Humanities Improve Our Health and Well-Being?

Friday, October 24 | 12:00–2:30 PM | Claude Pepper Center

This collaborative symposium brings together faculty from FSU’s Colleges of Medicine, Nursing, and Fine Arts — including music scholars and practitioners — to explore how artistic disciplines such as poetry, visual art, music, and interior design can support better health outcomes, working environments, and lifestyles.
The event reflects the College of Music’s continued engagement in cross-disciplinary research and its belief in music’s transformative power to heal, inspire, and connect.

Kaleidoscope: Innovation in the Arts and Humanities

Friday, October 24 | 7:00–8:30 PM | Opperman Music Hall

Hosted in the heart of the College of Music, Kaleidoscope showcases the breadth of creative and scholarly innovation within FSU’s arts and humanities community. The evening includes presentations on topics such as Narrative and Science and The Great American Desert, along with a feature on current art exhibitions and a series of interdisciplinary musical performances.
The event features contributions from FSU faculty including John Corrigan, Meegan Kennedy, Rodney Dorsey and the FSU Wind Ensemble, Stephen Mattingly, Paul Niell, Kaylee Spencer, and Adrienne Stephenson — exemplifying the rich dialogue between music, scholarship, and innovation at Florida State.

Both events underscore the College of Music’s ongoing commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration and the exploration of music’s role across the university and the community.
