The College of Music community is saddened to share the recent passing of Charles “Charlie” Rockwood.

“Charlie was an avid concertgoer who delighted in sharing the joy of music with our students, faculty and audiences,” said Dean Todd Queen. “As we fondly recall Charlie’s smile and patronage, we are grateful for the legacy he and Persis established here. Their extraordinary generosity will carry forward the Rockwood name for generations.”

The Rockwoods were especially fond of music performed on the piano and organ. They generously gave a $2.25 million gift to name the Rockwood Organ, which will be a custom Paul Fritts-designed organ in the planned Housewright Renovation and Expansion. They also established the Charles and Persis Rockwood Endowed Fund in Music, the Rockwood Prize for Piano Competition, and have a named parterre in Ruby Diamond Concert Hall.
