An exciting and groundbreaking event featuring College of Music alumna Jen Lamont, an acclaimed opera singer and musicologist, is coming to the Queer As Faust Festival. Lamont will present her lecture recital, “Sapphism in Song: A Lecture Recital of English Art Songs by LGBTQ+ Women Composers from 1900 to the Present,” on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at 4 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church.
This unique event offers a rare opportunity to explore the rich history and evolution of sapphic identity in classical music. Lamont’s meticulously curated program includes art songs by LGBTQ+ women composers, accompanied by insightful historical context and analysis. The performance will be followed by an artist talk at Aloft Hotel’s Wxyz Lounge, providing an engaging platform for audience members to delve deeper into the music and its significance.
Lamont’s journey from her early musical experiences to her current role as a performer and musicologist reflects her unwavering passion for music and queer representation. She holds a residency with Florida’s St. Pete Opera and serves on the board of the International Alliance for Women in Music. Lamont’s dedication to highlighting queer themes in classical music has led her to collaborate extensively with queer artists, uncovering and presenting music that challenges traditional narratives and celebrates LGBTQ+ identities.
