Career Paths 

  • Many of our graduates operate full or part-time private studios in a wide variety of communities.
  • FSU graduates hold full-time teaching positions at many colleges and universities around the nation and play in professional chamber ensembles, orchestras, and service bands nationwide.
  • FSU percussionists have gained admission to the most competitive graduate programs in the country including The Julliard School, Eastman School of Music, Indiana University, Northwestern University and many others.
  • Music Education graduates teach at all levels in public school systems across the country.  This program enjoys a fifty-year history of 100% job placement.

Engaged Learning & Learning Opportunities 

  • We host leading performers and pedagogues as guest artists annually. 
  • Our percussion studio holds weekly master classes that further enriches learning the community.
  • The annual Young Artists Competition and Doctoral Concerto Competition offer a high-level competitive opportunity for solo performances with extraordinary FSU orchestras.
  • Students travel to attend, perform, and compete at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention and other gatherings. 
  • As part of the learning community graduate students get experience rehearsing and conducting studio and chamber ensembles.

Graduate Placements

Graduates of our program hold full-time teaching positions at the University and Secondary levels, positions in Symphony Orchestras/Military Bands, and have been admitted to graduate programs at The Julliard School, Manhattan School of Music, New England Conservatory, The Eastman School of Music, The University of Michigan, Indiana University, Temple University, the University of Texas, and The University of North Texas, as well as participated in prestigious music festivals such as Music Academy of the West, National Orchestral Institute, The Aspen Music Festival and School, as well as the Texas, Round Top, and Eastern Music Festivals.Close
