Faculty to Record with RSNO

At Florida State University we take great pride in our accomplished faculty, who help make our school an excellent place for our students to grow into fantastic musicians.

Dr. Alexander Jiménez serves as Professor of Conducting, Director of Orchestral Activities, and the String Area Coordinator at Florida State’s College of Music. However, during Spring 2022 Jiménez was granted sabbatical to prepare for an exciting recording project with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra in Glasgow, Scotland in June, 2022.

The RSNO is one of the most recorded orchestras in the world, and Dr. Jiménez is very much looking forward to collaborating with them to produce a 2-CD set under the Parma label featuring works by the American composer Anthony Iannaccone.

Jiménez first performed a work by Iannaccone about ten years ago, and at that moment began to form a friendship and musical partnership with the composer.

“The first work of Tony’s that I conducted was his tone poem, Waiting for Sunrise on the Sound. I was captivated by his language, and [Iannaccone] loved the performance, so a nice friendship and partnership began,” recalls Jiménez. “I resonate with what I will call Tony’s “neo-Romantic” language. His style is distinctive, and he is guided by literary and human themes that are powerful. His music is bold and direct!”

Jiménez and the RSNO will record two of Iannaccone’s shorter orchestral works, Waiting for Sunrise on the Sound and From Time to Time, a work in two movements based on American folk songs, as well as his third symphony ("Night Rivers") and fourth symphony ("Bridges"), which was written for the Florida State University Symphony Orchestra.

The CD set is expected to be released in late December 2022 on the Parma Recordings label.

The College of Music at FSU is excited to see our faculty take on such important projects of international stature, and we are thankful to be able to support them in their endeavors.
