Percussion

John Parks - Professor of Percussion

Our success is demonstrated by our many graduates employed by professional ensembles and universities.

The Florida State University Percussion Studio is one of the nation's leading percussion programs. Our graduates continue to influence national and international performance and pedagogy in all genres of percussion as orchestral musicians, university professors, chamber musicians, and secondary instructors.  Our studio is comprised of 24 percussion majors at the Doctoral, Master's and Undergraduate levels, and is capped at that number to provide the best hands-on applied and ensemble experiences for our students. Admission to our program is highly competitive at both the graduate and undergraduate levels, and opportunities for performance with our nationally-acclaimed symphonic, jazz, and world music ensembles are open to all through auditions at the beginning of each semester, and additional performance opportunities exist with several regional orchestras.

The FSU Percussion Ensemble has been a winner of the PASIC 2007 and 2011 International Percussion Ensemble Competitions, resulting in showcase performances in Columbus, OH and Indianapolis, IN, and has been recorded on three internationally-acclaimed CD recordings. In addition, we boast one of the largest professional instrument inventories in the country, which also includes a technology component incorporated into our applied curriculum.
