Camp Life
Living at Southgate
Campus Centre or Students Attending as Day
Campers
Most
Camps begin instruction at 8:00 am and end
between 4:00 & 5:00 pm. Lunch is between
12:00 – 1:00 pm and dinner is 5:00 –
6:00. Evening activities begin around 7:30
each evening and lights out occurs in the
dorm at 10:00 pm.
Most
students attending the FSU Summer Music Camps
live at the Southgate
Campus Centre, an air-conditioned,
private, off-campus residence hall. Southgate
is a five-minute walk from the FSU College
of Music. A resident staff of counselors (primarily
upper-level undergraduate and graduate music
students at FSU) supervises the students.
Each room houses four students and is complete
with a full bath. Meals served at the Southgate
Campus Centre are served buffet-style and
are all-you-can-eat. A variety of meal options
are available, including options for vegetarians
and other restricted diets.
All
non-Tallahassee area residents are expected
to be dorm campers. Out-of-town students may
also make arrangements with the Camp Director
to be housed with family or family friends
age 21 or older in the Tallahassee area.
Students
staying off-campus are considered “Day
Campers” and pay only tuition. Day Campers
may purchase individuals meals at the Southgate
Campus Centre ($5.00 per meal). Day Campers
may also bring their own bag lunch and eat
in the College of Music Student Lounge. Day
Campers are welcome to participate in all
camp activities, including evening recitals,
and social and recreational activities held
at the Southgate Campus Centre.

Performance Opportunities
A variety of performance opportunities are
available to all campers. Band, choral, orchestral,
and jazz camps will feature public gala performances
by all students in a large ensemble. High
school band, string, piano and vocal students
also have opportunities to appear in solo
and small ensemble recitals. Students in the
Marching Band Leadership Camp perform in the
camp finale Pass & Review. Artist-faculty
from the Camp and FSU College of Music highlight
many evening recitals during the FSU Summer
Music Camps.
Recreational Activities
Activities vary from camp to camp. A few recreational
activities from the 2005 camp season include:
faculty and staff recitals, bowling, ice cream
socials, movie nights, a trip to the mall,
Fun Station (arcade, go-karts, and mini-golf),
and a dance.

2 – to – 1 Scholarship Program
All
camps offer a 2-to-1 Scholarship to all students
who have received scholarship money from an
accredited organization. Examples of accredited
organizations include, but are not limited
to: Lion’s Club, school booster club,
arts organizations, fraternal organizations,
etc. Individual donations scholarships do
not qualify for 2-to-1 Scholarships.
The
2-to-1 scholarship program is designed so
that for every $1 that an accredited organization
awards the student, Summer Music Camps will
contribute $0.50. Summer Music Camp’s
funds are limited to a total of $45 for students
attending one-week camps, and a total of $95
for students attending two-week camps.
Students
receiving ability scholarships from the Florida
State University Summer Music Camps are not
eligible for a 2-to-1 Scholarship.
How
to Apply:
A
formal letter, written on the sponsoring organization
letterhead, must be submitted by the accredited
organization to the Camp Director postmarked
no later than June 1, 2006.
The letter should request scholarship funds
for a specific student, and should include:
