Youth
Orchestra Day Camp
In
response to the educational needs of
sting students in the Leon County Schools
and the Tallahassee Symphony Youth Orchestra,
the FSU Youth Orchestra Day Camp is
being offered to string students from
ages 6-12. Students should have a minimum
of one academic year of string experience
in the Leon County Schools string program
or through the Tallahassee Symphony
Youth Orchestra. Students from outside
Leon County may attend, but they must
provide their own housing

Admission
is open to alto, tenor and bass voices
in grades 8-12 in the 2005-2006 school
year. Sopranos must be in grades 10-12
in the 2005-2006 school year. Only 40
sopranos will be admitted this year.
Instruction
and activities include full choral ensemble
rehearsals and concerts, sectionals, voice
classes, small ensembles, and comprehensive
music classes.
Though
no audition is required for the choral
ensemble camps, an informal audition will
be held the day of registration for those
interested in being considered for private
lessons/coaching with FSU voice faculty,
or for performing in the Honors Solo Recital.
Students who audition should come prepared
to perform two pieces of their choice.

Expanded
Focus!
Admission

camp is designed for both drum majors
and leasership personnel, including section
leaders and band captains. An expanded
focus this year is on developing leadership
skills, basic and advance conducting techniques,
communication skills and improving group/ensemble
dynamics. Students perform in the camp
finale, Pass & Review.

Instruction
includes intensive solo performance study,
daily private instruction, diction, sight-singing
techniques, preparation for auditions
and recitals, careers in voice, and the
study of vocal literature
Repertoire for the Audition
tape /CD should include one song in English
and one in Italian in the classical style
such as one might perform at solo/ensemble
festival. Songs might be selected from
24 Italian Songs and Arias (G. Schirmer)
26 Italian Songs and Arias (Alfred) or
the Joan
Boytim series: Soprano's First or Second
Book of Solos, Parts I or II (published
by Hal Leonard). Since this is not a musical
theatre camp, selections from this genre
are
discouraged.
