Music Therapy Articulation Agreement between
Indian River Community College and
Florida State University

The purpose of this agreement is to enhance the transition of the Associate of Arts in Music at Indian River Community College (IRCC) to the Bachelor of Music Therapy in the College of Music of Florida State University (FSU).

Program of Study at Indian River Community College

Students wishing to participate under the terms and conditions of this agreement must complete the Associate in Arts Degree in Music as specified in the Indian River Community College catalog and which must include at a minimum: 2 years of applied music successfully completed by audition, 2 years of class piano, class voice, 2 years of basic theory and sight singing, 4 ensembles, 3 semesters of recital credit, and the general education component required in the AA degree. General Psychology (PSY 2012) must be completed as a general education course. These courses will be taught by IRCC and FTE will accrue to IRCC. These students must also complete the first two years of the music therapy curriculum which must include: Orientation to Music Therapy, Class Guitar I, Arts in Medicine, and Recreational Music. These courses will be taught by the FSU faculty position assigned to IRCC and FTE will accrue to FSU. Curriculum sequences by semester at each site are attached.

Provisions for Admission

Students wanting to transfer to FSU to receive a bachelor’s degree in Music Therapy must complete the following:

  1. Associate in Arts degree in Music, including satisfactory completion of the Foreign Language requirement
  2. Complete the music therapy courses listed above
  3. Pass the CLAST examination
  4. Maintain a minimum 3.0 grade point average

Note: there will be no applied music audition required for admission to FSU since the student will have completed all required applied coursework. Also, Gordon Rule and Liberal Studies requirements will be completed by award of the AAS degree from IRCC.

Students transferring into FSU’s Music Therapy Program will be required to complete the following courses at FSU to satisfy the degree requirements for the Bachelor o Music in Music Therapy:
