Visiting Composers and Music Theorists

Each year we invite distinguised music theorists and composers to enrich our curriculum. The Housewright Scholar program allows us to fund a small number of week-long residencies; our visitors not only give a publiic lecture but also teach a variety of courses and offer master classes and/or private instruction. In almost every case, students are afforded the opportunity to interact with these scholars both formally and informally.

2008-2009

Kofi Agawu (Princeton University) keynoted our annual student-run FSU Music Theory Forum on January 17, 2009.
On Friday, November 21, Adrian Childs (University of Georgia) presented a talk to the FSU Music Theory Society (2:30 in KMU 206) and guest lectured in Dr. Jones's readings class at 10:10 (Library Seminar Room).
On September 29, composer and percussionist Lukas Ligeti visited FSU, giving a master class and presented a recital of his works.
Our Fourteenth Biennial Festival of New Music featured guest composer Christopher Theofanidis (Peabody Conservatory) and the acclaimed new music ensemble eighth blackbird. The Festival takes place on January 29-31, 2009. See here for the complete schedule of performances.
