About eFSU

The purpose of electroFSU is to promote electroacoustic music throughout Florida State University and the state of Florida.

 

The Composers

MARK WINGATE

RICHARD ZAROU is a composer of acoustic and electroacoustic music. He has earned a Master's degree in composition from Florida State University and a Bachelor's degree from Shenandoah University; he is currently a Doctoral candidate at FSU. At Florida State and Shenandoah Richard had the privilege to study composition with William Averitt, Mark Wingate, Clifton Callender, and Ladislav Kubik. In a short career he has achieved many performances and awards including the winner of New Music @ECU in 2002 for Fragile Wraths and again in 2003 for Upon a Child. Upon a Child (published by Gold Branch Music) has become his most successful piece having also been performed at the famous Kennedy Center in Washington, DC.

In August of 2003 he began his graduate studies at Florida State University under the wing of Dr. Mark Wingate, an expert in electroacoustic music. At Florida State he has already completed twenty-five pieces, including ten film scores. He has also had the opportunity to conduct private meetings with the renowned composer Ellen Taaeffe Zwilich and master classes with Michael Torke and Martin Bresnick.
