Auditions
Audition Registration Deadline:
The priority deadline to register for an audition is December 1. The College of Music will continue to accept applications and audition registrations after December 1 as long as openings are still available for your intended area of study. Since audition schedules fill quickly, requests for a specific audition date that are received after December 1 may not be honored. All audition dates close three weeks in advance, but some areas may close on a specific date. Check the Deadlines and Closed Programs page for up to date information.
How to register for an audition:
The College of Music Supplemental Application will ask you to request an audition date if it is required for your program of study. Because of the volume of applicants, please plan to apply as early as possible. Applicants will receive a preliminary confirmation following submission of the College of Music Supplemental Application and request for an audition within five business days.* This confirmation will come by email only to the address provided on the application. Please do not make travel arrangements until this confirmation is received.
*Errors in submission of your application may result in significant delays in processing and the subsequent scheduling of your audition.
What time of day will my audition be?
Applicants should plan to be available from 8:00 am - 6:00 pm of the intended audition date. It is suggested that applicants arrive in Tallahassee the day before as there are usually concerts or recitals available the evening prior. Applicants will be given an estimated time two weeks prior to the audition date requested. Please note calendar concerns before requesting an audition. Review the Sample Audition Itinerary for more information.
Do I need an accompanist?
Accompanists are provided for on-campus Voice auditions only and are neither provided nor necessary for any other auditions. Voice Applicants auditioning at one of our National Audition Sites must provide their own accompanist.
To be admitted to the College of Music, applicants must meet minimum standards in applied music through the admissions audition, and meet the academic requirements of the University. If a live audition cannot be arranged, recorded auditions may be acceptable for admission in some areas, but acceptance into a performance degree program may be re-affirmed by a live audition at the time the student enters the College of Music. Guitar, jazz, percussion, organ, voice and harpsichord students in particular are strongly recommended to audition in person; recorded auditions are not acceptable for Music Theatre applicants. Recorded auditions must be submitted by December 1.
